England is renowned for its quirky and quaint place-names, but Cornwall, with its extra language, has some real oddities. In this blog post, we explore the origins of some of North Cornwall and Devon’s place-names. If there’s a particular name that you can’t fathom, let us know on social media and we’ll do some digging for you.
Here in the rural upper reaches of the Tamar Valley we are very proud of our distinctive wildlife. Last year we were pleased to be part of an initiative from the Devon Greater Horseshoe Bat project through which we borrowed a bat detector. The results were more than a little surprising!
It's nearly that wonderful season again! Snowdrops are already cautiously poking their heads up, and even daffodils are beginning to ease open. Springtime is a truly special time of year for the South-West. We've collected a few fantastic spring garden experiences to celebrate the beautiful flora of Cornwall and Devon. If we've missed one, let us know on social media or in the comments below.
After the warmest and wettest December on record, our poor flowers are completely confused! Daffodils before Christmas, snowdrops before New Year, and now our first camellia has flowered!
